How to choose a barber in Belfast
Seven things worth checking before you sit in the chair, from a barber shop that has been cutting hair in Belfast since 1997.
1. Qualified barbers
Look for a shop where the barbers are properly trained and happy to say so. Hair is a skill, and an experienced barber will cut for your hair type and head shape rather than repeat one standard style.
2. Real examples of their work
Look at photos of the shop's own work, not just stock pictures. Our gallery of men's haircuts shows recent cuts from our barbers, and most good shops will show you something similar.
3. Time to do the job properly
A rushed cut is easy to spot afterwards. Check how long an appointment lasts. Ours are full 30 minutes for most services, so your barber has time to listen, cut and finish properly.
4. Clear prices
You should know what a haircut costs before you book. We publish our prices on this website and in the booking, so there are no surprises.
5. Easy booking and a convenient location
A shop you can book online, with opening hours that suit you, is one you will actually use. Our Ballyhackamore shop opens late on weekdays and early on Saturdays, and Holywood has convenient parking.
6. Reviews and reputation
Check recent reviews and ask friends. A shop that has been trusted for years, with regulars who keep coming back, is a good sign.
7. Specialist skills when you need them
If you want a perm, grey cover, a hot towel shave or a particular fade, check the shop does it regularly rather than occasionally. Ask to see examples.

How do I find a good barber near me?
Look at the shop's own photos and recent reviews, check the barbers are qualified, and see whether you can book a set time online. Then try them once and see how the cut grows out.
How often should I go to the barber?
Most men book every three to six weeks, depending on the style. Short fades need the most regular attention.
